Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ULTSQL license? ▾
ULTSQL is licensed under the Functional Source License, Version 1.1, MIT Future License (FSL-1.1-MIT). Created by Sentry, the FSL is an established Fair Source standard that gives full source code access, permits commercial and SaaS use, and automatically converts to standard open-source MIT after 2 years.
Can I build and sell commercial software using ULTSQL? ▾
Yes. You can build and sell proprietary commercial applications, mobile apps, desktop software, and SaaS platforms powered by ULTSQL without paying licensing fees or royalties.
Is there any forced attribution (e.g. "Powered by ULTSQL")? ▾
No. Under FSL-1.1-MIT, there is no requirement to display "Powered by ULTSQL" badges or splash screens. You only need to retain standard copyright notices in source distributions as customary.
Do I have to open-source my own application? ▾
No. FSL-1.1-MIT does not require your application to become open source. You can keep your own application's code 100% proprietary.
Can I run ULTSQL on AWS, GCP, or Azure for my company? ▾
Yes. Internal and customer-facing application deployment is permitted on any cloud provider. The only restriction is offering ULTSQL itself as a commercial hosted DBaaS product to third parties in competition with the author.
